Reportlinker Adds Medical Waste Management – US Market Trends

PR Newswire, Dec 1, 2009

NEW YORK, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ — Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue:

Medical Waste Management – US Market Trends

http://www.reportlinker.com/p0164254/Medical-Waste-Management—US-Market- Trends.html

Waste generated by healthcare centers is increasingly becoming the topic of debate among lawmakers, citizen groups and social groups in the US. The waste generated is classified into two categories, namely General Waste and Regulated Medical Waste or Clinical Waste. Regulated Medical Waste includes waste that is harmful or has the potential to be harmful to human beings and requires separate disposal. Disposal includes burning/incinerating or treatment before being sent to landfills, depending on the regulations prevalent in respective states. Some states in the US require compulsory incineration of certain types of medical waste such as amputated human parts or parts from autopsy, and laboratory cultures among others.

Owing to rising awareness regarding negative effects of incinerating medical waste, new environment friendly technologies are developed in the medical waste management market. Major alternatives to incineration include autoclaving and microwave sterilization. Even though alternatives to incineration are purported to be environmental-friendly, these technologies are beset with negative or perceived negative traits that hinder their progress to becoming the preferred standard for medical waste disposal. Healthcare facilities are also looking to reduce waste disposal costs through reduction in volume of Regulated Medical Waste generated.

These and other market data and trends are presented in “Medical Waste Management: US Market Trends” by BizAcumen, Inc. Our reports are designed to be most comprehensive in geographic coverage and vertical market analyses

Arson probe after fire at car repair unit

0 Comments | Coventry Evening Telegraph (England), August 31, 2009

A CAR repair garage was destroyed in a suspected arson attack early on Saturday.

Two fire crews from Foleshill and one from Radford went to the scene in Cross Road, Foleshill, at about 3.15am.

The fire damaged more than three-quarters of the building.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said one man had been inside the garage but had got out by the time fire crews arrived.

Roger Jacques, who owns the unit which he rents out, said police contacted him on Saturday morning.

“There shouldn’t have been anyone inside the garage. There was a car inside which I assume was a customer’s,” he said.

“I’m not sure exactly how much damage has been caused but the insurance assessor is coming out to look at it.

“It will need a new roof and electricals. There is also some smoke damage in the adjoining units.”

West Midlands Police have launched an arson investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0845 113 5000 or anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

On Choosing a Car

by admin on Dec.28, 2009, under Uncategorized

Now that you have passed your driving test, you can think about your own car.

This article will walk you through some of the things to think about when choosing a car.

The first question to answer is ‘What type of car do I want’?

Don’t buy the first car you see. Dont buy a car because it is in fashion. Why not buy a car that suits your lifestyle? You have worked hard for the right to drive and you are just about to spend a lot of money in one go. Why not take some time to get it right?

Which type of car will suit me the best?

It can be difficult choosing your first car. This section is a series of questions that will help you decide on the type of car that you want.

Your Driving Instructors car

Did you like the type of car you used for your driving lessons?

Yes – Why not buy one? You might be able to buy ine from a driving school.

No – Try the next set of questions.

Power

There is a reason that motorcyclists have to work their way up from small bike to large bike. They need to build up their experience before they get on a powerful machine. It is the same with cars – you need to know how to handle an Evo or a Porsche.

Try to get a car about the same power as the one you learnt in. The insurance will be less than the price of the car.

Lifestyle

Do you have young children?

Yes – How are you going to get them in or out?

No – 3 or 5 door. Either will be OK.

Will you carry a lot of junk or a pet?

Yes – Look at the boot space.

No – Boot space is not a problem.

Will it fit my image?

Yes – Are you sure?

No – What sort of image do you want to give out?

Type of driving

Mainly in town? Think small and easy to park.

Mainly on fast roads? Think easy cruising speed.

Mainly on rural roads? Think safe, reliable, good vision.

Lots of miles? Think about diesel and comfort.

Shops and gym? Think about petrol and space.

Me

Size? It does matter. If you are six foot six and 20 stone, will you be comfortable in a small hatch back? Can I park the car easily?

How much can I afford?

Now that you have decided on the type of car that you want it is time to decide on a price range. Time to work out how much you can spend on a car.

Work out a budget. Add up all your expenses. Now subtract anything that you really could do without. Take that amount from your regular income. The amount left over is the amount you can afford to spend every month on a car. It is your car budget.

Your car budget has to cover the cost of the car, fuel, insurance and repairs.

Which Car?

That car type and budget sorted. Let’s find a car.

Research

It is very important that you find out about a car before you buy it. Try to find out what to look for before you go and buy a car. What are the signs that this is a bad car to buy?

Have a look on the internet and see what other people say. What car, Autotrader and Top Gear all have very honest car reviews. Have a look at the guide prices to see what the car is actually worth.

Where to buy?

Main dealers are best for new and nearly new cars. They can offer good deals, especially at the end of the month.

Franchised dealers tend to carry good quality used cars. They can offer excellent deals.

Local Car dealer tend to have used cars. Make sure they have a good reputation.

Paper – People use papers to sell their cars. Be careful – look out for the same phone number in several adverts or the letter T after an advert. These are people trading in used cars

WOMEN who go grey early […]

WOMEN who go grey early []

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Dec 7, 2009

WOMEN who go grey early should blame their genes rather than a stressful life, new research suggests. A study of twins in Denmark has shown that a woman’s genetic make-up is chiefly responsible for her hair losing colour. The findings challenge the notion that stress and other aspects of lifestyle such as diet and smoking are factors in becoming grey.

Researchers working for the giant soap and detergent company, Unilever, looked at more than 200 identical and non-identical twins aged 59 to 81.

By comparing rates of greying between the two groups it was possible to determine the relative importance of genetic and environmental factors. Identical twins share the same genes and therefore should be equally susceptible to a condition that is wholly genetic. The study found little difference between the greyness of identical twin sisters, suggesting that genes were the main reason for going grey

Popular diet product recalled in US amid bacteria fears

0 Comments | AFP, December, 2009

WASHINGTON (AFP) Cans of a popular, ready-to-drink weight loss product are being recalled in the United States after tests showed the liquid meals could be tainted with bacteria, the Food and Drug Administration said Friday.

Unilever United States announced that it was recalling “all Slim-Fast ready-to-drink products in cans, due to the possibility of contamination with Bacillus cereus, a micro-organism which may cause diarrhea and possibly nausea and/or vomiting.”

The recall involves all Slim-Fast ready-to-drink products in cans regardless of flavor, sell-by date, or lot number, but not other Slim-Fast products such as meal bars or powder, Unilever said.

No one was available at Unilever to say how many cans of Slim-Fast were involved in the recall, but the…

DEAR DR. GOTT: I recently wrote you regarding my experience…

0 Comments | Bismarck Tribune, Oct 22, 2009

DEAR DR. GOTT: I recently wrote you regarding my experience with psoriasis, for which my husband (a pathologist and professor) recommended that I take fish oil and vitamin D3. I had very good results and wanted to share them with your readers.

When I read my letter in the paper, it said that I was taking 1,000 milligrams of fish oil and 2,000 IU of vitamin D three times a day. This is not what I said. That means anyone who tried this remedy is taking three times as much as they should, and this is a huge amount. Please print a retraction.

DEAR READER: Consider it done. There was a misprint in the original column, and “three times daily” should have been “D3.”

I would like to mention that I don’t believe any harm will come to anyone who took the tripled dose. According to the Office of Dietary Supplements, people over the age of 14 should not take more than 2,000 IU of vitamin D daily; however, several nutrition scientists have challenged this, citing recent research studies that show up to 10,000 IU of D daily is acceptable. So, in my opinion, a short-term dosage of 6,000 IU daily will not be harmful.

As for the fish oil, many physicians recommend normal, healthy people consume about 2,000 milligrams daily. That is double what you were taking and just under the misprinted triple dose

The murder of Meredith..Flawed evidence would never have been

0 Comments | Sunday Mirror, Dec 6, 2009 | by BOB GRAHAM

THE DNA evidence that nailed Amanda Knox and her Italian boyfriend is so flawed that it would never 1 have been put before a British or American court.

Nine leading US specialists this week warned in an open letter that key DNA evidence on a kitchen knife and Meredith Kercher’s bra clip was simply “not credible”.

Their comments came amid growing concerns among senators in US that Knox has not received a fair trial.

So much so that in the final week of the case, representatives of the American Embassy in Rome sat in the courtroom as observers.

The controversial DNA evidence will form the cornerstone of the appeal by Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, which is now likely to become a political issue involving the Italian and US governments. It is known US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asked for regular updates.

Yesterday American Senator Maria Cantwell said: ” I have serious questions about the Italian justice system and whether anti- Americanism tainted this trial.

“The prosecution did not present enough evidence for an impartial jury to conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that Ms Knox was guilty.

“The jurors were allowed to view highly negative news coverage about Ms Knox while other flaws in the Italian justice system included the harsh treatment of Ms Knox following her arrest, negligent handling of evidence by investigators and pending charges of misconduct against one of the prosecutors stemming from another murder trial.” Knox’s family and her lawyers were, however, expecting a guilty verdict.

Deep distrust and cynicism of an Italian legal process they view as flawed – and possibly even corrupt – primed them months ago for yesterday’s verdict.

According to Knox’s defence team the appeal will focus on four specific areas: The DNA that linked Knox and Raffaele Sollecito to the murder scene.

The background of the drifter Rudy Guede, already convicted of the murder at an earlier trial, leading to the murder
