GreenPeak Technologies, a fabless semiconductor company offering ultra low power wireless and battery-free data communication technologies for consumer electronics and sense and control applications, announced the completion of ZigBee RF4CE certification.
ZigBee RF4CE (Radio Frequency for Consumer Electronics) is the standard communication protocol for radio frequency-based remote controls for audio/video consumer electronics. The ZigBee RF4CE specification is based on IEEE 802.15.4 MAC/PHY radio technology in the wireless 2.4GHz unlicensed frequency band and enables operation, low power consumption and instantaneous response time. It allows omni-directional and two-way communication, frequency agility for enhanced co-existence with other 2.4GHz wireless communication systems (like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) and provides specifications for data transmission, discovery, pairing and security.
In comparison to traditional IR (infrared) remote controls, GreenPeak said RF remotes provide a greater range. RF also removes the line-of-sight barrier of today’s IR remotes.
GreenPeak is a member of the ZigBee Alliance and is committed to the RF remote control market with dedicated reference design software stacks and a dedicated ZigBee RF4CE specialist team supporting customers

Stuttgart will get over stutter

WALTER SMITH has warned his players not to be lulled into a false sense of security by Stuttgart’s stuttering form.
The Bundesliga side are involved in a dog fight with Rangers and Romanians Unirea for European survival in a Champions League group dominated by Sevilla.
VFB are also struggling in the Bundesliga and that has prompted some to consider the hosts a good bet at Ibrox on Tuesday night.
Manager Smith though, who has ruled himself out of the Scotland job vacated by George Burley last week, is aware how resolute Markus Babbel’s side is.
While the Germans have endured a dismal spell, both domestically and in the Champions League, and sit just a point clear of the relegation zone in their homeland, they are equally desperate to stay in Europe.
Tuesday night has turned into a ‘must win’ game for both clubs – certainly as far as their fading Champions League hopes are concerned.
Stuttgart managed a draw in Sevilla a fortnight ago and Smith expects them to provide yet another huge test for his side.
He believes that just like in the last campaign they are capable of transforming themselves and roaring back into contention both in Germany and in Europe.
He said: “They had a bad start to last season, which led to a change in coach around this time of year. But then they went on a bit of a run.
“They had been really down and fought themselves back up. Only when they lost their last game of the Bundesliga against Bayern Munich did they finish third in the table.
“This time they lost Mario Gomez who I think is a terrific player and who was the focal point of their play.
“That has been a bit of a problem for them as it takes an initial period of time for new player to adapt.
“But Stuttgart are a good side and their form will eventually settle down – but hopefully not by Tuesday!
“They”re a team capable of reversing what, for them, has been a bad start to the campaign.
“It’s going to be a tough match but the motivation is there for both of us because we can still qualify.”
Smith, who has not has his own problems to seek at cashstrapped Rangers this season, admits to having sympathy for his opposite number Babbel (left).
He is convinced that the former Liverpool defender is well capable of sorting things out and that in itself is a warning to the Ibrox club.
Smith added: “Like the rest of us Markus finds himself under a bit of pressure because his team haven’t been doing so well.
“When he came in last season he couldn’t have asked for a better start

Dell Unveils Virtual Desktop Solution for Healthcare
by admin on Nov.22, 2009, under Uncategorized

Dell announced a Mobile Clinical Computing (MCC) solution that is designed to eliminate the traditional trade-offs hospitals face between making patient information available to medical staff at the point of care and securing it in the data center to promote compliance with HIPAA regulations.
The company explained that data security is a legitimate concern for hospitals and patients. With an estimated average data breach cost of $202 per record1, or $4 million to $20 million2 for recent hospital breaches — hospitals must protect critical information from unauthorized access and use while at the same time sharing it at the point of care for diagnosis and coordination of patient care.
Dell said its Mobile Clinical Computing (MCC) simplifies management for it and info access for medical professionals and helps improve information security, staff productivity and care quality.
Dell said the new offering has the following features:
– Data Security: Patient info and applications are protected and managed centrally in the data center.
– Convenient Access: MCC enables access to role-based applications and data from any device anywhere in the hospital. Single sign-on, session roaming and location awareness simplify interaction for clinicians.
– Simplified Management: Applications are updated in minutes instead of hours.
– Shift from Managing Devices to Managing Identities. MCC simplifies info security and management for IT and information access for medical professionals by locking applications and patient info in the data center and shifting IT focus from managing a growing number of end-user devices to managing user “digital identities.”
– Right Infrastructure for the Job. Dell creates a practical blueprint for the design, implementation and management of a virtual client network that works for the medical professional and for the hospital with the right combination of thin client, virtual desktop, laptop or handheld.
– A Complete Information-Sharing Solution for Hospitals. Dell is providing what it called a complete solution from design, validation and implementation of the MCC infrastructure, to integration of clients, servers and software with training and 24/7 service and support.

More states add jobs, but many are temps
WASHINGTON | In a sharp improvement, more than half of U.S. states added jobs in October, though economists said many of the gains probably occurred in temporary employment.
That’s customarily a positive sign. Employers usually hire temporary workers before they add full-time jobs. But in this case, the temporary hiring may be inflated by the auto sector, which has boosted production to replace depleted inventories. As a result, the increase might not be sustainable.
Some of last month’s job gains also were in sectors such as education, health care and government, which have fared relatively well during the recession. By contrast, there’s little evidence that companies in hard-hit industries are hiring permanent staff.
Boston Scientific to send jobs abroad
MIAMI | Medical-products manufacturer Boston Scientific will close its plant in Doral, Fla., eliminating 1,400 jobs by 2012, Miami-Dade economic development officials said Friday.
The company is transferring the plant’s work to a vacant facility in Costa Rica, where labor costs are much lower, said Frank Nero, president of the Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s economic development agency.
Based in Natick, Mass., the company makes medical devices used by doctors in fields including gynecology, urology and oncology. Last year’s sales exceeded $8 billion.
Boston Scientific is at least the third life sciences company to announce plans to ship jobs from South Florida to Latin America in the past year.
’3 Hebrew Boys’ guilty in investment scam
COLUMBIA, S.C. | Three South Carolina men have been found guilty of bilking thousands of investors out of more than $80 million.
A federal jury deliberated for less than four hours Friday before finding Timothy McQueen, Joseph Brunson and Tony Pough guilty of nearly 60 charges each. The charges included conspiracy, mail fraud and money laundering.
The men called themselves the “3 Hebrew Boys” after the biblical tale of men who survived an inferno because of their faith.
The three showed no reaction as the 15-minute verdict was read. Later, the same jury ordered the men to forfeit $82 million, the maximum sought by authorities. They could also face decades in prison

The Little Gym: Get Moving – and Talking – with Your Children
by admin on Nov.20, 2009, under Uncategorized
Business Wire, Nov 19, 2009
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Little Gym is encouraging parents to have daily, meaningful
conversations with their children in honor of National Communicate with
your Children Day, which takes place on December 5th.
“Although most parents communicate with their children on a regular
basis about the details of each day, many are missing out on the
opportunity to delve deeper into the child’s individual experiences,”
says Paul Dickison of The Little Gym International.
Dickison recommends that parents follow these tips:
-
Walk together If your home is within a moderate distance to
school, the practice field or any stores in town, make it a point to
walk to these places with your child. Fill the time by chatting about
the child’s day. -
Unwind before bed Allot yourself a half an hour before
bedtime to catch up with your children by doing some gentle stretching
in a quiet place. Turn off the TV and any other digital devices. -
Chat over chores Enlist your child’s help around the house
and use the time to find out about his or her likes or dislikes. Clean
up the room, put toys away or empty the dishwasher. Let the child
choose some music to play while the chores are done.
“You want to create an environment where they feel relaxed, and one way
to do this is to talk while moving
