Dec. 10–RICHMOND, Calif.–Z Doctor/Explorer Express doesn’t specialize in equipment for “soccer mom” vehicles.
Go there for running boards and shiny rims, auxiliary lights and anything else that would make a Datsun Z or Ford Explorer look like fierce driving machines. Don’t go there to find a child seat

Environmental Engineering, Mar 2009
Raytheon Systems has won a S 1.4 million contract from the US Air Force for pro- duction of a system that protects GPS navigation and timing systems from jam- ming and interference. It will supply 41 Antenna Electronics units and 28 Controlled Reception Pattern Antennas to equip US Navy surface platforms, fixed and rotary-wing aircraft.
The system is a successor to the GAS-1 GPS Antenna system, which has been in production since 1998. Compared to earlier analogue technology, it provides significantly more GPS antijam protection against complex jamming scenarios and has been modified for an extended mean time between failures

ENERGY EFFICIENCY : ENHANCED STANDARDS FOR POWER SUPPLY EQUIPMENT.
by admin on Aug.28, 2009, under Uncategorized
Europe Environment, April, 2009
New, stricter energy efficiency standards for external power supply equipment will enter into force in two phases (2010 and 2011) in the European Union. They correspond to internationally recognised energy efficiency criteria that are included in the most energy efficient models currently on the market. The new regulation, adopted by the European Commission on 6 April, directly concerns power supply equipment for most domestic appliances, such as cordless telephones, mobile telephones, notebook computers, modems and other electrical domestic appliances.
The new standards aim to reduce electricity losses from pieces of equipment (transformers and other chargers) that emit heat when they are connected to reduce the current captured on the main network to a lower…

Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Jul 15, 2009 by www.lds.org
ItsAboutLove.org, LDS Family Services’ newly redesigned pregnancy counseling and adoption services Web site, was launched in June 2009.
In part, the Web site helps expectant parents consider all options for their unborn child. “It is about connecting people with what they need,” said Valerie Mechling, a birth mother who placed her baby for adoption through LDS Family Services three years ago. “This new Web site really does a good job of that.”
LDS Family Services redesigned the site to add more in-depth information and resources, as well as to improve its aesthetic appeal and organization.

Types : Early blenders were generally simple in style until about a decade ago, when manufacturers began to experiment with jar and blade designs. Blenders are typically used to produce mixed drinks and frozen drinks, such as smoothies and shakes. They are sometimes used in food preparation. Blenders have a single blade assembly at the bottom of their mixing containers. Portable immersion blenders have a removable blade affixed to their shafts, and end-users can use them with any food container
Letters: NO SYMPATHY FOR THE FINANCIALLY OVEREXTENDED

Philadelphia Daily News, March, 2008
ISTRONGLY agree with letter-writer Kenneth Denski on the foreclosure epidemic.
My wife and I worked two jobs to buy a small house. Our vehicles are older. We could’ve got a four-bedroom, split-level way too expensive for us, then added on two new cars just because everyone else had them. We could’ve run our credit cards up to the max buying the nicest TVs and other junk.
I have zero sympathy for people who did all that knowing they couldn’t afford it and now are begging for the government to help them
Dental Insurance Companies Grew Membership 5%

Orange County Business Journal, Aug 11-Aug 17, 2008 by Reed, Vita
HEALTHCARE: HMOs growing as companies, people watch costs
Delta Dental of California kept its top spot among dental insurance plans operating in Orange County, according to this year’s Business Journal list.
The 13 dental health maintenance organization and preferred provider organization plans on the list grew their membership 5% over the past 12 months to 1.86 million people.
The Business Journal made estimates for four dental insurers.
As with last year, Delta, which is based in San Francisco and part of the nationwide Delta Dental Insurance Co., posted the biggest gain by percentage and number of enrollees. Its total OC enrollment rose 20% to 575,531 members.
“We did see healthy growth for the past 12 months,” said Elizabeth Risberg, a Delta Dental spokeswoman.
Delta made gains in signing up school districts and unions, Risberg said. She declined to identify the clients.
Delta also is selling more dental HMO plans because employers and workers are becoming cost-conscious, she said.
“They have a cost per month and copayments,” she said. “They can save money on both ends.”
Delta was featured in a recent Wall Street Journal article on how dental plans are increasing their benefits in tough economic times.
Delta recently introduced a plan that doesn’t count diagnostic and preventive care toward the annual maximum benefits.
With a plan like that, patients are able to conserve more of their yearly benefits allowances, which generally are capped at $1,500 to $2,500, for pricier procedures like bridges and crowns, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Last year, Delta surged past SafeGuard Dental Health Plans as the county’s market leader. The Business Journal estimates that SafeGuard-part of SafeGuard Health Enterprises Inc., which was acquired by New York-based MetLife Inc. earlier this year-has 460,000 local enrollees. SafeGuard reported figures last year and said it had 460,812 local members then.
SafeGuard posted a large enrollment gain about three years ago when it bought the dental and vision HMO membership from GE Wellness Dental and Vision.
Aetna Dental, part of Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna Inc., came in at No. 3 on this year’s list. Its OC membership was essentially flat at 150,671 enrollees from 149,690 the previous year.
Cigna Dental, part of Philadelphia-based Cigna Corp., followed at No. 4. Its local enrollment fell 4.5% to 136,900 members.
The Business Journal estimates that UnitedHealthcare Dental/PacifiCare Dental, this year’s No. 5 plan and part of Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealth Group Inc., had 135,000 local members.

A trash bag that repels rodents
by admin on Aug.27, 2009, under Uncategorized
Journal of Environmental Health, Oct, 2007
Late in 2006, an entrepreneur in New York City used wintergreen oil to develop a rat-resistant garbage bag. He introduced the bag to building superintendents and the park services in the spring. All found it to prevent rats and even raccoons from getting into the garbage, and today more than 1 million bags a week are being sold. Central Park is using the bags to prevent raccoons from tearing into the park’s garbage.
Called Repel-X, the bags were recently tested by an independent laboratory and proven to be 100 percent effective against such rodents as rats, mice, and raccoons
